A Treasure in Earthen Vessels

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency of the power may be of God and not out of us.” – 2 Corinthians 4:7

I grew up reading the Bible and being told to trust in it, but I didn’t really understand what it said. Now with the Recovery Version, I can read one footnote and it helps decipher difficult-to-understand portions of the Word within the context of the entire Bible. I get a clear perspective of what is on God’s heart.

For instance, the footnotes on 2 Corinthians 4:7 really enrich my understanding of this verse and cause me to know and love Christ more. Although we’re just earthen vessels, we can contain the priceless treasure of Christ in us.

I especially like this part of note 1:

“God’s shining in our hearts brings into us a treasure, the Christ of glory, who is the embodiment of God to be our life and our everything…This has made the worthless vessels ministers of the new covenant with a priceless ministry. This has been accomplished by the divine power in resurrection. The excellency of the power is surely of God and not out of us.”

I’m encouraged to know that God’s shining into us is so that He can be our life and our everything. I have been blessed to know God’s word in a deeper way through the Recovery Version and am happy to be here at BfA to give away this Bible for free.
