The Normal Christian Life by Watchman Nee
Over the last fifty years, The Normal Christian Life by Watchman Nee has helped hundreds of thousands of believers walk along a normal path of spiritual growth. His book speaks of the power of the Lord’s precious blood and the effectiveness of His cross in bringing every believer into a daily living and enjoyment of Himself.
“The Blood deals with what we have done, whereas the Cross deals with what we are.”
The Normal Christian Life, p. 5
This is the best Christian book I’ve ever read aside from the Bible…It will change your life. Take it slowly and pray as you read it; it will revolutionize the way you see yourself, the cross, the blood of Jesus, and your status before God. I’ve read a lot of Christian books, I don’t think any of them come close to this.

The only way I can describe the amount of help I received from brother Nee’s spiritual insight is to say that it changed my life. I went from a passive, religious Christian into a consecrated disciple of Jesus Christ. The simple truth laid out in this book is that Christ Himself is all we need.

The Economy of God by Witness Lee
In 1927 Watchman Nee published his spiritual classic on Christian growth and progress, The Spiritual Man. In that book Nee presents the simple biblical truth that man is composed of three parts—spirit and soul and body—as a central and necessary revelation for believers to progress in their spiritual life. In The Economy of God Nee’s closest and most trusted co-worker, Witness Lee, builds upon this foundation in order to unveil the central revelation of the Bible—that God wants to impart Himself into man for His full expression in the church. In The Economy of God Lee clearly reveals the move of the Divine Trinity and gives believers practical ways to cooperate with Him for the fulfillment of His eternal plan.
“Christianity is not, strictly speaking, a religion teaching people to do this and to do that. It is simply Christ Himself, the living One, being wrought into us.”
The Economy of God, p. 52
The Economy of God was a book I could not put down. It answered many questions I had about the Bible…A book that clearly defines man’s relationship toward God and God’s relationship with Himself in His Trinity. I have used it as reference with the Bible in defining the make up of man and the reason for man’s relationship with and to God. A must read for all lovers of Christ!

What is a book that has made it from the pages to my experience? It is this one. Simply put, it is the clearest and most easy to read book which unveils God’s purpose that I’ve read.

About Watchman Nee and Witness Lee
The first Western missionary, Robert Morrison of England, arrived in China in 1807, beginning a century-long evangelical work that brought the gospel from the West to the East. As a result of the Great Awakening in England and beginning in the 1860s, Hudson Taylor and others gave themselves to the preaching of the gospel throughout China. But in 1900, with the uprising against Western Christianity during the Boxer Rebellion, many Western missionaries were martyred and many others were forced to return home. Those who left, however, continued to pray earnestly for the people of China.
In the 1920s, the Lord answered the countless prayers offered by Christians in the West and began to call young Chinese people to His service. The gospel reached the educated circles, and many college students were brought to the Lord. One hundred years of missionary work, followed by years of persecution and desperate prayer, had created an atmosphere in which the Lord could raise up a whole generation of young Chinese Christians. It was from among that generation that the Lord called Watchman Nee and Witness Lee.
Nee became a Christian in China in 1920 and began writing on matters of the Christian life in the same year. He spoke to both large and small Christian audiences in China and Europe and raised up hundreds of churches in China. His ministry has had great impact on Christians all over the world. Nee was arrested by the Chinese government for his faith in 1952 and remained imprisoned until his death in 1972. In 2009, Nee was recognized in the U.S. Congress for his devotion to his faith and his contributions to Christianity worldwide.
Lee also became a Christian in China in the 1920s. He first met Watchman Nee in 1932 and worked closely with him in Christian ministry. Lee came to the United States at the age of 57 and ministered there for the next 35 years of his life. His major work, Life-study of the Bible, is a comprehensive book-by-book exposition of the entire Bible. Much of his speaking has been published as over 400 titles on Christian life and service. Lee spoke publicly for the last time at a Christian conference in 1997 just months before his death.
Watchman Nee and Witness Lee labored together in the Lord’s service for 20 years. In their time together, Witness Lee was greatly edified by Watchman Nee, and through the ministry of these two co-workers, 400 churches were raised up in more than 30 provinces in China. With the Communist takeover of China in 1949, Nee foresaw the impending persecution of Christians. He commissioned Lee to leave China for Taiwan to continue their ministry there. This ensured that the scriptural truths and spiritual principles the Lord had shown them would continue to nourish and edify believers outside of China.
Excerpts by both Nee and Lee are featured in the commentary of the Mosaic Bible published by Tyndale House Publishers. A biography of Watchman Nee titled A Seer of the Divine Revelation in the Present Age was written by Witness Lee and published by Living Stream Ministry.
