Quote of the Week: The Glorious Church

January 14, 2014

“We need to see before God that we can do nothing from ourselves. He must bring us to the place where we realize that we truly can do nothing from ourselves—everything must be by Him and out of Him.”

From The Glorious Church by Watchman Nee (mass-distribution ed., p. 34). Bibles for America gives this book away for free. You can order your free copy on our order page. You can also download a free PDF version here.

I cannot do anything on my own, only Christ.Praise Him!

  • Don Kusch says:

This is illustrated in Exodus 19. Jehovah God had brought the children of Israel out of Egypt to Himself and said, “If you will obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My personal treasure from among all the peoples… and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” Then, all the people responded saying, “All that Jehovah has spoken we will do.” They didn’t realize that due to their fallen human nature with indwelling sin, they did not have the ability in themselves to do all that Jehovah had spoken. In fact, God did not want them to work for Him. Rather He wanted them to realize and confess their inability to do what God said, seek for His mercy, love Him, and take in His word as their nourishment. Then they would spontaneously live by Him and express Him.

In our experience it seems that we arrive at such a revelation and actual realization “by Him” our wonderful and transforming God. It certainly is a journey with many “stops” of fresh realizations and renewed consecrations and prayers in His wonderful presence!

  • Only with god I can do anything
